Walker H27i with R52 Rear Discharge
The H27i with R52 combines Walker's front-mounted deck layout with rear discharge and a 26.5 hp EFI engine. It is a non-collection configuration for a buyer who wants to work around obstacles without choosing a side-discharge chute or an integrated grass collection system. Its particular value depends on the layout of the mowing route.
Specify the tractor and deck together
Walker's H27i specification identifies the 747cc Rehlko/Kohler ECH749 EFI engine, dual Hydro-Gear ZT-3400 transaxles and a ten-mph maximum. Two separate 4.7-US-gallon tanks provide 9.4 gallons total capacity. Record both tractor and deck identities on a quote rather than ordering only by engine horsepower.
The R52 deck page identifies DR52-3, a three-blade, 52-inch rear-discharge deck for the H series. This is a rear-discharge configuration rather than a grass collection system. Confirm that this clipping-management approach suits the property before choosing the deck.
The H38i with R64 offers a wider H-series comparison with a different engine. The T27i collection mower shares a similar EFI engine family but has a different purpose and platform. Neither should be treated as an alias of this H27i/R52 configuration.
A PTO shaft does not eliminate deck belts
Power reaches the deck through a quick-disconnect PTO shaft, while the R52 blade system is belt-driven. Ask the dealer to demonstrate the prescribed tilting-deck service arrangement and explain belt inspection and access. Follow the manual's shutdown, isolation and securing instructions before any maintenance.
The front deck's torsion-flex frame, caster wheels and counterweight springs support its ground-following arrangement. That is a design description, not proof of cut quality on uneven ground. Compare the result during a demonstration, including the turning room needed by the complete machine.
Resolve the cutting-height document difference
The general product page lists a one-inch minimum, but the September 2026 H27i manual, covering serial 199027 onward, lists 1.5 to five inches for the DR52, DR64 and DS61 decks. Use the exact serial-range manual and supplied deck instructions; do not assume the one-inch figure applies to a newly supplied configuration.
The standard suspension seat provides adjustment for operator fit. Set the seat and controls before comparing comfort, and check the front-mount versus mid-mount guide for the broader layout tradeoffs.
Check the drive warranty details
The current manual gives two-year tractor coverage and a three-year/3,000-hour transaxle warranty, with coverage prorated after 1,000 hours. Engine coverage is separate. Our provisional assessment values the specified front-deck arrangement, EFI engine and operator provisions, while leaving actual finish, comfort and purchase value to a demonstration and local terms.
Our ZT Score
7.9/10 — our research-based editorial assessment using the ZeroTurn scoring method.
- Cut quality (30%): 8.0/10. Front-mounted R52 deck and torsion-flex support offer a defined layout; cutting finish is untested.
- Build & durability (25%): 8.0/10. ZT-3400 transaxles and documented deck drive support the package, without proving longevity.
- Comfort (20%): 8.0/10. Standard adjustable suspension seat supports fit; actual ride comfort is unmeasured.
- Value (15%): 7.3/10. Front-deck rear discharge may suit the route, but pricing and support determine value.
- Ease of use (10%): 7.9/10. Tilting deck and accessible layout help service; separate deck identity and belts require attention.
Provisional research-based editorial judgement, not a hands-on test. We have not measured cut quality, ride, productivity or service life. Model-specific owner consensus and comparable delivered US/Canadian prices were not established. Value depends on the application, equipment and local support.
