Our verdict

Walker T27i GHS 48

The T27i with a C48 collection deck is a specialist purchase for work that calls for removing clippings. The useful comparison is the complete mowing-and-emptying routine. A collection system cannot be judged solely by engine power, cutting width or the volume of its catcher.

Match the tractor and collection deck

Walker's current T27i page lists a 26.5 hp, 747cc Rehlko/Kohler ECH749 EFI engine. The 2026 operator manual covers MT27i serial numbers 189968 onward and confirms a 7 mph maximum forward speed. These details should not be replaced with older 27 hp or 6.5 mph listings without checking the machine's serial range.

This review concerns the GHS tractor with the 48-inch C48 collection deck, rather than a non-collection tractor or a separately configured discharge deck. The integrated Grass Handling System moves material to a ten-bushel catcher. Walk the route to the disposal point and include unloading time when evaluating the package.

Our leaf collection guide helps frame when collection is useful. It does not establish how quickly this mower handles wet clippings or a particular leaf load; those results need a representative demonstration.

Learn the separate speed control

The Model 7 hydrostatic drives use individual steering levers alongside a separate Forward Speed Control. Ask the dealer to explain the controls and stopping sequence before operating. Someone accustomed to lap bars should not assume identical behavior when releasing or repositioning a lever.

The front deck, Comfort Seat and tilt-open body are also worth trying in person. Check sight lines, entry and exit, and whether the prescribed deck-service procedure fits the space available. The residential Walker Model R 48 is a different equipment and clipping-management reference, not an equivalent GHS package.

Check length and warranty detail

With the C48 deck, Walker lists 49.25 inches wide, 93 inches long and 1,034 pounds. A relatively narrow footprint does not eliminate storage-depth or transport constraints. Measure the complete fitted machine, including any selected options.

The manual gives two-year tractor coverage and separate engine terms. Model 7 transmission coverage has a three-year/3,000-hour structure with prorating after 1,000 hours; specified authorized-dealer service can qualify it for enhanced coverage. Obtain the full applicable policy rather than reading the headline as unconditional full replacement. Our warranty guide explains the questions to put in writing.

Our buying view: consider T27i GHS when collection and front-deck access answer a defined need, and when disposal and service support are practical. Research checked October 15, 2026; we have not measured collection performance or ownership costs.

Our ZT Score

7.9/10 — our research-based editorial assessment using the ZeroTurn scoring method.

  • Cut quality (30%): 8.2/10. The front collection deck and integrated handling system provide a distinct finishing option, without measured pickup or cut results.
  • Build & durability (25%): 8.2/10. Separate hydrostatic drives, geared final drives and documented service access support the equipment assessment, not a longevity guarantee.
  • Comfort (20%): 7.6/10. Comfort Seat and control layout offer useful operator features; ride and long-day comfort remain untested.
  • Value (15%): 7.2/10. The specialist collection role can justify the package only when disposal time, service and delivered price fit the job.
  • Ease of use (10%): 7.9/10. Tilt access and separate speed control offer practical features, balanced against a different control routine and catcher management.

Provisional research-based editorial assessment of documented equipment. ZeroTurn has not field-tested this configuration or measured cut finish, vibration, fuel use or service life. Reliable model-specific owner consensus and comparable delivered US/Canadian quotes were not established. Value depends on the actual work, complete equipment price and local support.
