Walker D21d GHS C48
The D21d C48 is a collection-focused choice for someone who specifically wants a small diesel tractor with an out-front deck. This review covers a D21d equipped with the 48-inch C48 collection deck and GHS catcher. It is not a bare tractor or a non-collection package.
Confirm the serial generation
Walker’s January 2026 operator manual, beginning at serial 189969, specifies dual Walker Model 7 transmissions and a maximum forward speed of 7 mph. The product webpage still shows older Eaton Model 7 and 6.5-mph information. Our specification follows that current manual; check the serial number when evaluating stock or a used machine.
The engine is the liquid-cooled Kubota D722, a 719cc three-cylinder diesel rated at 20.9 hp. The 4.7-US-gallon tank does not establish runtime or fuel savings. The diesel-versus-gas guide explains why fuel price, use and support must be considered together.
Specify the collection equipment
The GHS package uses a 10-bushel catcher, a 10.5-inch blower, an oscillating Powerfil delivery spout and a Grass-Pak full signal. These are handling features, not a tested guarantee against clogging in every condition. Ask to see collection and emptying with representative material before comparing complete job times.
The current C48 deck page identifies part DC48-2. The tractor manual's dimension table refers to the earlier DC48-1, so we have not reused that table as an exact width or weight for a newly quoted deck. Have the dealer record the deck part number and measure the assembled machine.
Compare the complete ownership package
The manual lists a full spring-suspension seat with adjustments for operator weight, back angle and lumbar support. Try those adjustments and Walker’s separate Forward Speed Control before choosing it over the gasoline T27i 48. Both collection capacity and how comfortably you can manage repeated stops matter.
Basic tractor coverage is two years; the engine has separate manufacturer coverage. Model 7 transmission coverage is three years or 3,000 hours, with proration after 1,000 hours. The manual describes an extension to full replacement and unlimited hours within three years when specified dealer service, oils and filters are used. Obtain those conditions in writing rather than assuming the extension is automatic.
Our provisional verdict favours the D21d when diesel and routine collection are deliberate requirements. Compare cooling-system service, local support and the complete quoted package before choosing it for engine type alone.
Our ZT Score
8.1/10 — our research-based editorial assessment using the ZeroTurn scoring method.
- Cut quality (30%): 8.2/10. Dedicated collection deck, blower and fill distribution support the package; finish and clogging resistance untested.
- Build & durability (25%): 8.3/10. Shaft PTO, gear final drive and diesel cooling are substantial hardware; durability remains unmeasured.
- Comfort (20%): 8.2/10. Standard adjustable suspension seat provides fit options, without a measured ride claim.
- Value (15%): 7.5/10. Diesel collection can suit sustained work; acquisition cost, fuel savings and service costs are unknown.
- Ease of use (10%): 7.8/10. Full signal and separate speed control support operation, but collection maintenance and warranty conditions add demands.
Provisional research-based editorial assessment of documented equipment, not a hands-on test. We have not measured finish, ride, productivity or service life. Model-specific owner consensus and comparable delivered US/Canadian prices were not established. Value depends on the job, exact equipment and local service.
