Walker C23i GHS 48
C23i with a C48 collection deck is an alternative for buyers who want Walker's integrated clipping-handling layout with ZT-3100 transaxles. Its purchase case starts with the collection routine: where material will be unloaded, how often the catcher needs attention and whether the complete machine fits the property.
Use the current engine and serial-range documentation
Walker's July 2026 operator manual covers C23i machines beginning at serial number 191079. It specifies a 23 hp, 747cc Rehlko/Kohler ECH730 EFI engine and dual Hydro-Gear ZT-3100 integrated transaxles. The MC23i tractor identifier should be paired with the selected C48 deck on the quote.
This is a different drive package from the T27i GHS 48, which uses Walker Model 7 transmissions. Compare service access and applicable component coverage alongside engine power. The C23i's published 8 mph maximum does not prove a faster completed collection job.
Decide which catcher you are buying
The model page lists seven- and ten-bushel catcher capacities. The manual explicitly identifies the ten-bushel catcher shown in its illustrations as optional. Do not assume a photo establishes the included capacity.
Have the dealer demonstrate the GHS screen, blower access and prescribed cleaning procedure with the machine safely prepared. The catcher-full signal and material-distribution system assist collection, but they do not remove the work of emptying and maintaining the system. Our mulching-versus-bagging guide helps assess whether collecting material is useful for the job.
Walk the unloading route before selecting the larger catcher. Its nominal capacity is not a guarantee that every load of grass or leaves can be packed to the same volume. Ask to see how the chosen package is emptied and what unloading equipment is included.
Learn the controls and measure the length
Individual steering levers work alongside a separate Forward Speed Control. Learn the normal stopping and parking sequence from the dealer; do not transfer habits from a different lever layout without instruction.
With C48, Walker lists 49.25 inches in width and 96.25 inches in length. That combination can need considerable storage depth even when a narrow route is manageable. Check turning room and the complete installed options as well as straight-line clearance.
The manual gives two-year machine coverage, with the engine handled separately. ZT-3100 coverage is two years or 2,000 hours, whichever comes first, and is prorated after 1,000 hours. Our warranty guide explains why the headline alone is insufficient.
Our buying view: consider C23i 48 when its collection system and drive arrangement fit the work. Confirm catcher capacity, service support and the exact serial-range instructions. Research checked October 17, 2026; no measured collection-speed or fuel-saving claim is made.
Our ZT Score
7.8/10 — our research-based editorial assessment using the ZeroTurn scoring method.
- Cut quality (30%): 8.0/10. Front collection deck and integrated handling provide a distinct finishing option, without measured pickup or finish results.
- Build & durability (25%): 7.8/10. ZT-3100 integrated drives and documented service access support the assessment, with prorated coverage limiting the warranty headline.
- Comfort (20%): 7.6/10. Comfort Seat and separate speed control offer useful fit choices; operator comfort is untested.
- Value (15%): 7.3/10. Integrated collection can be valuable when needed, but unloading, service and optional catcher costs must be included.
- Ease of use (10%): 7.9/10. Dedicated blower access and separate speed control are useful, balanced against screen cleaning and collection management.
Provisional research-based editorial assessment of documented equipment, not a hands-on test. ZeroTurn has not measured cutting finish, ride, fuel consumption or service life. Reliable model-specific owner consensus and comparable delivered US/Canadian quotes were not established. Value depends on the complete equipment price, support and intended work.
