Our verdict

Gravely PRO-STANCE ULTRA 52 Kawasaki

The PRO-STANCE ULTRA 52 puts a large engine and substantial chassis behind a mid-size commercial cutting width. It is a candidate for an operator who needs a 52-inch swath but wants the ULTRA equipment package. It should not be mistaken for a particularly small mower simply because wider decks exist in the range.

Keep the 52-inch specification column separate

Gravely's model listing identifies 994173. Its specification sheet assigns this version a 35 hp, 999cc Kawasaki FX1000V, Parker HTG transaxles and a 16-gallon tank. The larger EFI configurations have their own model numbers; this review does not transfer their injection system or horsepower to the 52.

The 7-gauge X-Factor 3 fabricated deck has a 1.5-to-5.5-inch range. Foot and hand controls operate the lift, and the manufacturer describes serviceable forged-aluminum spindles. Ask a technician to show the required access and service points before deciding which upkeep you can perform yourself.

Plan around the machine, not just its cutting width

Published dimensions include 67 inches with the chute and 55 inches without it. The listed weight is 1,294 pounds. Use the configured unit's dimensions and loaded weight when arranging transport; do not assume that removing discharge protection creates an approved mowing arrangement.

On a demonstration, pay attention to clearance at ordinary turns and at the property entrance. If the route mainly rewards compact size, compare the Z-Stance 48 before paying for equipment you may not use. The two are different drivetrain and chassis packages, not equivalent machines separated by four inches of cutting width.

Assess operator fit and support

Gravely's flip-down operator pad provides access to internal components. Have the dealer demonstrate that access with the mower safely prepared, then check normal standing posture and the reach to both deck-lift controls. We have not measured vibration or operator fatigue.

The 12.5 mph published maximum is a travel capability, not a promise of acceptable cutting at that speed. Use representative grass and a sensible pace for evaluating the finish.

Our buying view: ULTRA 52 makes sense when its engine, drive and fuel capacity answer a documented commercial need. The specification sheet states five years/1,500 hours, with no hour limit for the first two years, plus separate limited lifetime deck-shell and frame terms. Use the warranty checklist when reviewing the quote. Research checked October 13, 2026; local price and field performance remain unverified.

Our ZT Score

8.1/10 — our research-based editorial assessment using the ZeroTurn scoring method.

  • Cut quality (30%): 8.3/10. The X-Factor 3 deck, height range and lift arrangement support a strong equipment assessment without a comparative cutting test.
  • Build & durability (25%): 8.7/10. Parker HTG drive and 7-gauge deck provide a substantial commercial specification; field durability remains unknown.
  • Comfort (20%): 7.3/10. The operator pad and two lift-control methods deserve consideration, but suspension comfort and fatigue were not established.
  • Value (15%): 7.5/10. The high-power 52-inch package can serve a defined route, but excess size and equipment cost may be hard to justify elsewhere.
  • Ease of use (10%): 8.0/10. Serviceable spindles and accessible internal components earn credit; transport weight and working width add practical constraints.

Provisional research-based editorial assessment of the documented configuration, not a hands-on test. Cut finish, fatigue, fuel use and durability have not been measured by ZeroTurn. Reliable model-specific owner consensus and delivered US or Canadian dealer quotes were not established. Value depends on the intended jobs, complete equipment quotation and local service support.
