Our verdict

Gravely Z-Stance 48 Kawasaki

The Z-Stance 48 is a commercial stand-on worth comparing for controlled work around landscaped areas, especially when a higher maximum speed is not the main objective. Its adjustable cruise bar lets the operator limit the available top speed. The buying question is whether that control arrangement and the overall machine suit your repeated tasks.

Read the 48-inch column

The current specification sheet identifies 994159 with a 22 hp, 726cc Kawasaki FS651 and Hydro-Gear ZT-3100 transaxles. It lists a 48-inch, 10-gauge X-Factor 3 deck, a 7 mph forward maximum and hand-operated deck lift. The 32-inch Z-Stance has different deck construction, so a series-wide description should not be substituted for this model's column.

The height range is 1.5 to 5 inches. During a demonstration, check whether setting the cruise bar and changing deck height are comfortable from the normal operator position. Neither feature should require you to adopt a stance you would not want to repeat through the day.

Count hours as well as years

Gravely lists four years or 500 hours of commercial coverage. As a simple planning example, 250 operating hours per year would reach 500 hours in two years; that arithmetic is not a forecast of a failure or a complete interpretation of the warranty. It shows why a four-year headline alone is not a useful comparison for a busy route.

Ask for the full regional terms, the applicable component exclusions and the maintenance schedule. Keep that coverage discussion separate from the machine's expected working life: a warranty limit is not a retirement date.

Compare the operator format before stepping up

The Bobcat ZS4000 48 provides a same-width stand-on comparison with a different drive package and warranty structure. Do not choose between them solely by the faster published travel speed. Check control feel, service access and the quality of the result on the work you actually perform.

If standing is still an open question, compare the seated Pro-Turn ZX 52 and use our operator-format guide to plan the demonstration. This is a choice between different working arrangements, not a claim that one position suits every person.

Our buying view: consider the Z-Stance for its straightforward deck adjustment and controllable speed range on compact commercial work. Obtain a delivered quote and evaluate the 500-hour cap against your own operating log. We have not verified a price advantage over other stand-ons or measured fatigue during a working shift. Research checked October 10, 2026.

Our ZT Score

7.6/10 — our research-based editorial assessment using the ZeroTurn scoring method.

  • Cut quality (30%): 7.8/10. The 48-inch X-Factor 3 deck and useful height range support a positive design assessment without evidence of a class-leading finish.
  • Build & durability (25%): 7.8/10. ZT-3100 drive and documented commercial construction earn credit; the 500-hour warranty cap is a relevant ownership limitation.
  • Comfort (20%): 7.2/10. Standing controls and adjustable cruise bar offer useful adaptation, but no tested fatigue benefit or specific suspension performance is established.
  • Value (15%): 7.1/10. The controlled-work use case is clear, although a current quote and the operator annual-hour total are needed to assess the package value.
  • Ease of use (10%): 8.0/10. Cruise-bar speed limiting and straightforward height selection are useful for repeated tasks; hand-lift reach needs a personal check.

Provisional editorial judgement from manufacturer documentation, not a hands-on test. Comparative mowing finish, operator fatigue and longevity have not been measured, and reliable model-specific owner consensus has not been established. Comfort assesses the documented standing operator station, not a seat. Value is conditional on a current delivered quote and the intended workload; no such US or Canadian dealer quote was verified.
