Our verdict

Gravely Pro-Stance 48 Kawasaki FX730V

The Pro-Stance 48 model 994161 is worth comparing when a 48-inch standing mower fits the route but you want a different drive and deck package from the Z-Stance. Its 23.5 hp Kawasaki FX730V, ZT-3400 transaxles and 7-gauge deck define that comparison more clearly than the similar model names.

Compare the two 48-inch packages

Gravely's model-specific bid specifications identify a 726cc engine, nine-US-gallon tank and nine-mph forward maximum for 994161. The current model listing retains that exact product identity.

The Z-Stance 48 has a different FS-series engine, ZT-3100 drive and deck construction. The two are not aliases. Compare service requirements, supplied equipment and delivered quotes before deciding whether the Pro-Stance package addresses a real limit in your work.

Try height selection as part of the job

The Pro-Stance deck offers 1.5- to five-inch settings in quarter-inch steps, selected with a pin-style system. The specification also lists a flip-up suspension platform with rubber isolators. Check both arrangements during a demonstration: height changes and platform fit are tasks you will repeat often.

We have not tested fatigue or vibration. The stand-on comparison provides a way to compare operator positions without treating standing as inherently more comfortable. Follow the model's instructions for platform changeover; folding hardware is not permission to invent another operating mode.

Account for the complete footprint

The bid sheet lists 50 inches with the discharge in its transport position and 62.25 inches overall with it deployed. Measure the supplied mower and required operating clearances before accepting a restricted-access job. Do not plan around a 48-inch gate merely because the mower cuts a 48-inch strip.

A larger tank does not establish runtime, and nine mph is not a promise of a good finish at that pace. If the route admits a larger platform, the Pro-Stance Ultra 52 is a separate comparison rather than an automatic upgrade.

Put coverage beside annual hours

Published commercial coverage is five years/1,000 hours, with the first two years without an hour limit, plus separate limited-lifetime frame and deck-shell provisions. Request full applicable terms and the engine documentation. The Pro-Stance's case rests on its equipment fitting repeated work; price advantage, long-term durability and owner consensus have not been established.

Our ZT Score

7.8/10 — our research-based editorial assessment using the ZeroTurn scoring method.

  • Cut quality (30%): 8.0/10. 7-gauge deck and quarter-inch height selection support the design; finish unmeasured.
  • Build & durability (25%): 8.0/10. ZT-3400 drive and documented frame support repeated commercial work without proving life.
  • Comfort (20%): 7.7/10. Suspension platform and isolators support fit, but standing fatigue remains untested.
  • Value (15%): 7.4/10. The package may suit the route; its premium and payback need actual quotes.
  • Ease of use (10%): 7.8/10. Pin adjustment and compact standing layout help use, subject to access checks.

Provisional research-based editorial judgement, not a hands-on test. We have not measured cut quality, ride, productivity or service life. Model-specific owner consensus and comparable delivered US/Canadian prices were not established. Value depends on the application, equipment and local support.
