How to Compare Zero-Turn Mower Dealer Quotes

Two offers for the same mower name can include different equipment. Build a consistent comparison before deciding which delivered package meets your needs.

The lower number at the top of a mower quote is useful only when you know what it buys. A series name can cover different engines, deck types and seat packages. Delivery, setup and required attachments can also change the amount needed to put the machine to work.

Use this checklist for written offers on shortlisted new zero-turn mowers. It complements a demonstration: the demo shows how a particular machine fits your work, while the quote establishes which equipment and services the dealer is actually offering.

Start with an exact equipment identity

Ask for the manufacturer model number, engine, cutting width and discharge arrangement. Add the dealer's stock identifier or serial number when the offer concerns a particular unit. A model year alone is not enough to identify a configuration.

The Gravely PRO-TURN 560 992534 illustrates the issue: its 35 hp FX1000V differs from the EFI configuration also sold under the 560 name. Matching only the name and 60-inch deck would leave a material difference hidden.

Write down any substitutions the dealer proposes. Do not count an unspecified replacement as equivalent until its relevant equipment is confirmed.

Separate included equipment from options

List the seat, tires or tracks, deck lift and clipping equipment you need. Mark each item as included, optional, unavailable or still unconfirmed. Ask for accessory part numbers and installation charges where applicable. A photograph of a fitted accessory is not evidence that the quoted price includes it.

For example, the Hustler Diesel Z lists electric deck lift among accessories. A demonstration with that kit does not establish that a base offer includes it. The John Deere Z950R 60 also warrants a seat check because its ordering reference offers different seat selections.

Keep wanted extras separate from required equipment. That allows you to compare the minimum workable package and your preferred package without silently charging one dealer's offer for an option missing from another.

Request a delivered, usable total

Ask the dealer to itemize the machine, selected attachments, installation, initial setup, freight or destination charges, delivery and applicable taxes or other charges. Identify where collection or delivery takes place. Treat an empty line as a question rather than assuming it means zero.

Use a simple worksheet with these entries for each offer:

  • Exact machine and deck configuration.
  • Required options and installation.
  • Setup, freight and delivery, identifying anything already included.
  • Applicable additional charges shown by the dealer.
  • Total in a clearly stated currency, with quote date and expiry.

Add each charge once. If freight is already included in the machine price, do not add it again merely because another offer lists it separately. Ask the dealer to reconcile any difference between the line-item sum and the final total.

Keep US and Canadian offers comparable

Label every amount USD or CAD. Do not compare two bare dollar figures or assume a manufacturer's US advertised price is a Canadian delivered price. If comparing across currencies, record the exchange-rate source and date used, and obtain the actual transaction costs before relying on the comparison.

Ask the seller to confirm availability and service arrangements for the market where the mower will be used. This worksheet does not determine cross-border charges or coverage; unresolved items should stay visible until the responsible seller or provider supplies the relevant terms.

Attach coverage and service answers

Request the applicable written warranty, including use classification, time and hour limits, and separate engine or transmission terms. The warranty guide explains why the largest year number alone is insufficient.

Ask who performs warranty work, how transport is arranged and which service promises are included in writing. A loaner, pickup service or turnaround estimate should not be assumed from a friendly conversation. If payment terms differ, request the complete written terms and keep them separate from the equipment comparison.

Close the gaps before choosing

Match the final offer to the machine you evaluated with the dealer-demo checklist. List remaining differences and decide whether another demonstration or revised quote is needed. Save the accepted equipment list and terms together.

The strongest comparison is a clear record of what each delivered package includes and what remains uncertain. It can justify paying more for required equipment or reveal that an attractive extra is unnecessary. Research checked October 24, 2026; no current dealer prices or savings are claimed.
