Our verdict

Toro Z Master 7500-D 60 Rear Discharge

Choose the Z Master 7500-D 60 for a reason beyond the diesel badge: model 72028 uses rear discharge. That makes it a different buying question from selecting another side-discharge 60-inch commercial mower. The first demonstration should establish whether this discharge arrangement suits the properties you actually maintain.

What distinguishes 72028

Toro's model-specific listing gives a 25 gross hp, 1267cc Yanmar diesel, a 7-gauge TURBO FORCE deck and three blades. Drive comes from an 18cc Kanzaki pump and Hydro-Gear HGM-H wheel motors; maximum forward speed is 12.5 mph. Hydraulic lift uses a rocker switch.

The Z Master 4000 60 is a useful gas-powered comparison, but matching cutting widths should not disguise different drive and engine packages. Obtain like-for-like quotes with the same service assumptions before deciding what the additional equipment is worth.

Evaluate where the clippings go

During the demo, ask the operator to show the route around beds, hard surfaces and parked equipment. Inspect the result before another pass changes it. Rear discharge changes the direction of discharge; it does not make thrown objects harmless or remove the need to follow the manual's exclusion distances.

Include cleanup time in the comparison. A configuration that cuts a test strip quickly is less convincing if it creates extra work elsewhere on your route. We have not measured clipping distribution, fuel consumption or mowing productivity for this model.

A substantial machine to move and maintain

Toro lists a weight of 1,900 pounds. Check the actual delivered configuration against your trailer, ramp and loading requirements, including everything else carried. Do not substitute a nominal deck measurement for the complete machine dimensions.

The comfort package uses an isolated floor pan and deluxe suspension seat. It deserves a personal trial, without treating isolation as proof of full wheel suspension. The seat-versus-suspension guide explains what to check.

Our buying view

This is a serious candidate when rear discharge solves a recurring route problem and the commercial support arrangement works for you. Toro advertises five years or 2,000 hours, with no hour limit in the first two years; obtain the complete applicable terms. Current exact-model prices remain unlisted here.

Use the diesel ownership comparison to evaluate annual work and costs. A diesel engine and a long warranty headline are reasons to investigate, not evidence that this mower automatically has the lowest cost per job.

Our ZT Score

8.1/10 — our research-based editorial assessment using the ZeroTurn scoring method.

  • Cut quality (30%): 8.3/10. The heavy rear-discharge deck offers a distinct route-management option; distribution and finish still need a demo.
  • Build & durability (25%): 8.6/10. Separate commercial pump and motors, wet-disc clutch and reinforced deck support the construction assessment, not a lifespan claim.
  • Comfort (20%): 8.0/10. Isolated floor and suspension seating are a meaningful comfort package without evidence of full wheel suspension.
  • Value (15%): 7.2/10. Rear discharge may justify a premium for the right route, but a current delivered price and operating comparison are missing.
  • Ease of use (10%): 7.7/10. Hydraulic lift helps daily adjustments; substantial mass and commercial service requirements complicate ownership.

Provisional research-based editorial judgement for commercial mowing, not a hands-on test. No reliable model-specific owner consensus or measured fuel-use comparison was established. Cut and comfort scores assess documented equipment and require a local demonstration. No current exact-model price was verified; value remains conditional on a delivered quote.
