Toro TimeCutter 34 (77301)
The TimeCutter 34 is a useful shortlist candidate for a homeowner who wants a fabricated deck but cannot justify the cutting width of a larger mower. Model 77301 is the important identifier: specifications from a different TimeCutter generation should not be assumed to apply.
Where this configuration makes sense
Toro pairs the 34-inch IronForged deck with a 22 hp Briggs & Stratton EXi V-twin and dual hydrostatic drive. Smart Speed provides travel-speed ranges without requiring the same reduction in blade speed. Those are features to evaluate during a demonstration, not evidence that this mower has beaten its rivals in a cut-quality test.
On a lawn with short runs, beds and turns, the buying question is whether the smaller cutting width suits the route. A broad, unobstructed lawn presents a different calculation. Compare the time spent repositioning with the extra passes a narrower deck requires, rather than assuming the largest engine rating produces the fastest finished job.
Gate fit requires another number
Toro's US specification page lists 45 inches assembled width. The 34-inch deck label therefore cannot confirm passage through a 36- or 42-inch opening. The page does not label that assembled measurement as a chute-up clearance figure, so we do not treat it as one.
Before ordering, have the dealer measure the actual machine and explain any approved transport or storage configuration. Our guide to mower width and gate clearance helps separate those measurements from cutting width. Do not remove discharge protection to make a purchase fit your yard.
Price the equipment you want
The reviewed US page displays US$3,699 as of October 5, 2026. This is a displayed product price, not a delivered dealer quote or a statement that a local machine is in stock. Canadian pricing remains unverified.
Toro lists armrests, an hour meter and the foot-operated height-of-cut option separately. Its comparison sheet identifies seat springs on this model; it is not a MyRIDE machine. Include desired options when comparing quotes instead of comparing only the headline prices.
If physical access is the deciding constraint, also inspect the Hustler Dash XD 34. If your opening permits a wider mower, the John Deere Z315E 42 provides a useful next comparison.

Our ZT Score
7.7/10 — our research-based editorial assessment using the ZeroTurn scoring method.
- Cut quality (30%): 7.8/10. The IronForged deck and Smart Speed control provide a useful cutting-system package. This score is an editorial estimate from design and controls, not a measured cut comparison.
- Build & durability (25%): 7.5/10. The 10-gauge fabricated deck is a strength for this residential size. EZT drive keeps the assessment within homeowner duty rather than assuming commercial durability.
- Comfort (20%): 7.2/10. Seat springs offer basic cushioning. The machine does not have MyRIDE, and optional armrests should not be credited as standard equipment.
- Value (15%): 8.0/10. The displayed US$3,699 price makes the fabricated deck and speed controls a persuasive compact-residential package. Optional equipment and dealer delivery charges can change the comparison.
- Ease of use (10%): 8.0/10. Smart Speed helps match travel speed to the job. Optional foot lift and hour meter reduce the completeness of the standard convenience package.
Provisional editorial assessment of documented equipment for residential use, checked October 5, 2026. No hands-on test or sufficiently verified model-specific owner consensus underpins this score. Cut and comfort scores estimate the design, not measured results. Revisit the score as ownership evidence and comparable delivered quotes become available.
