Toro GrandStand 48 Kawasaki
The GrandStand 48 is especially interesting when trailer space and access for service are part of the purchase decision. Its foldable operator platform offers a specific functional choice: Toro supports both riding on the platform and operating in walk-behind mode. That does not mean every stand-on mower can be used the same way.
What model 72504 includes
The Canadian product listing specifies a 22 hp Kawasaki FX691V, a 48-inch TURBO FORCE deck and a suspended operator platform. It lists unitized hydraulic pumps and wheel motors, a maximum forward speed of 10 mph and a 1.5-to-5-inch cutting range. Match 72504 on the quotation; other GrandStand engine packages and regional models are not interchangeable specifications.
The deck has a standard adjustable discharge baffle. Ask the dealer to explain its approved settings and demonstrate the result in the grass conditions you expect. The presence of an adjustment is useful, but it is not proof that one setting will handle every mowing situation.
Test the transport benefit with your own layout
With the platform folded, the mower occupies less space than in its operating arrangement. Whether that lets you carry another machine depends on the actual trailer layout, clearances, payload and securing points. Measure the complete arrangement rather than buying on a general claim about a smaller footprint.
Our stand-on versus sit-down comparison includes a route and demonstration checklist. A seated Z Master 2000 52 is a useful alternative if longer uninterrupted mowing sessions make a seat your priority.
Service access is useful when you can use it
Toro describes access to the engine, hydraulics and controls after removing the fuel tank. Have a technician show the access procedure with the machine safely prepared for service. Do not equate accessible components with permission to skip scheduled maintenance.
The product page's feature copy and specification table disagree on spindle-housing material and blade thickness. We have omitted those details rather than selecting a favorable version. Verify them against the parts information for the delivered serial number if they affect your purchase.
Our buying view
Shortlist the GrandStand when the folding platform and its operating modes solve a recurring problem. Compare the Scag V-Ride II 48 for a different platform and hydraulic layout, using matched delivered quotes.
Toro's linked limited warranty gives the 48-inch-and-larger GrandStand five years or 1,200 hours, with no hour limit during the first two years. Engine and other component provisions differ. Confirm coverage for your country and intended use. Research checked October 10, 2026.
Our ZT Score
8.1/10 — our research-based editorial assessment using the ZeroTurn scoring method.
- Cut quality (30%): 8.2/10. TURBO FORCE deck and adjustable discharge baffle offer a well-equipped cutting package; finish has not been tested.
- Build & durability (25%): 8.2/10. The documented hydraulic drive and 7-gauge deck support the assessment; conflicting spindle and blade details receive no additional credit.
- Comfort (20%): 8.0/10. Suspended platform and an alternative walking mode provide options, but their comfort for a particular operator is not established.
- Value (15%): 7.3/10. Transport and operating flexibility can be useful on a commercial route, subject to a current complete quote and verified trailer fit.
- Ease of use (10%): 8.5/10. Folding platform, supported operating modes and service-access design make this a strong practical package when the manual is followed.
Provisional editorial judgement from manufacturer documentation, not a hands-on test. Comparative mowing finish, operator fatigue and longevity have not been measured, and reliable model-specific owner consensus has not been established. Comfort assesses the documented standing operator station, not a seat. Value is conditional on a current delivered quote and the intended workload; no such US or Canadian dealer quote was verified.
