Our verdict

Spartan RZ-XD 54 Kawasaki FX730V

The RZ-XD 54 is worth considering for a larger maintained property when you want the Kawasaki FX engine package and a floating seat platform. The exact configuration here is RSZL2154FX730, identified in Spartan's 2026 parts manual. It is separate from the RZ-HD and the RZ-XD Blackout.

Resolve the horsepower label first

Spartan advertises this FX730V configuration as 24 hp. Kawasaki's US specification lists the FX730V at 23.5 SAE-certified hp and 726cc. We use the engine manufacturer's 23.5 figure in the specifications and disclose the difference rather than treating the two labels as different engines.

This is the carbureted FX730V. An EFI engine carrying a similar name should not be substituted into a quote comparison. Verify the engine label and model code on the machine being offered.

Evaluate the seat and deck together

Spartan lists a Dymetrol seat with a floating seat platform, a 7-gauge XTF deck and shock-assisted foot deck lift. The Parker HTE drive is distinct from the larger drive packages on Spartan's commercial flagship machines. None of these specifications establishes measured ride quality or a particular service life.

A useful demonstration should include reaching the deck-lift pedal and controls after adjusting the seat. Our seat-versus-full-suspension guide explains why a floating operator support should not be confused with suspension throughout the mower.

The 9.5-gallon fuel capacity is a planning advantage only if it matches your workload. Avoid turning the up-to-9-mph travel specification into a promised mowing speed. Ask to see the complete 54-inch machine measured with its discharge protection in place; the site's default dimension row describes a 48-inch deck.

Match the warranty to expected hours

The Spartan warranty statement limits RZ-XD product coverage to three years or 400 hours, whichever comes first. Engine coverage is separate. For frequent paid mowing, calculate how quickly your expected hours would reach that cap before comparing it with commercial alternatives.

Compare the existing RZ-HD 54 for the actual engine, seat and equipment differences. If your main question is refuelling frequency, use the runtime worksheet. Our research-based score supports a closer look at this equipment package, while leaving price, cut finish and comfort open to verification.

Our ZT Score

7.8/10 — our research-based editorial assessment using the ZeroTurn scoring method.

  • Cut quality (30%): 7.9/10. 7-gauge XTF deck and assisted adjustment support the equipment assessment; cut finish has not been tested.
  • Build & durability (25%): 7.9/10. Parker HTE drive and fabricated deck provide useful hardware, without evidence of service life.
  • Comfort (20%): 8.0/10. Floating seat platform and adjustable controls offer fit options; comfort requires a demonstration.
  • Value (15%): 7.4/10. The package may fit larger-property use, but price is unknown and 400-hour coverage can limit high-hour value.
  • Ease of use (10%): 7.8/10. Assisted deck lift and adjustable controls are useful, while exact dimensions and conflicting power labels need verification.

Provisional research-based editorial assessment of documented equipment, not a hands-on test. Cut finish, ride, fuel consumption and service life have not been measured by us. Model-specific owner consensus and comparable delivered US/Canadian quotes were not established. Value depends on the quoted configuration, workload and local service.
