Kubota Z452KWi-54 EFI
The Z452KWi-54 adds electronic fuel injection to a 54-inch Kubota Z400 package. It is a useful comparison for an owner who likes the size of a Z400 but wants to evaluate choke-free starting and electronically managed engine operation. The EFI badge should start a discussion about convenience and service, not end the comparison with a carbureted machine.
What distinguishes this Z400
Kubota's Canadian specification page lists a 26 gross hp Kawasaki FT Series GH730V EFI, 726cc engine with Hydro-Gear ZT-3600 drive. It identifies the deck as RCK54P-400Z and lists a 10 mph forward maximum. The US introduction independently confirms the EFI engine, drive package and push-button start.
The seated Z421KW-54 is an appropriate within-brand comparison at the same cutting width. This is a different engine and control configuration, not simply another year appended to that model's name. Compare complete quotations so that seat, tires and supplied accessories do not get mistaken for the cost of EFI alone.
Try the seat and the start routine
The Canadian table specifies a deluxe seat with three inches of suspension stroke, a standard hour meter and semi-pneumatic front caster tires. Adjust the seat before checking control and pedal reach. The US launch information also identifies weighted control levers and a check-engine light.
Ask the dealer to demonstrate a normal cold start and a warm restart using the supplied instructions. Then ask how an indicated engine fault is diagnosed locally. Neither the button nor EFI guarantees an engine will start under every condition, and electronic fuel metering does not remove oil, filter or cooling-system maintenance.
Our EFI-versus-carburetor guide sets out the questions to ask before assigning a fuel-saving value to the upgrade.
Check fit and regional coverage
Kubota lists a 67.3-inch overall width with the mower and a 6.8 US gallon fuel tank. Measure the complete supplied machine and access route; fuel capacity is not a verified number of mowing hours per fill. The gate guide helps separate cutting width from usable clearance.
The 2026 US warranty guide lists Z400 residential coverage at 48 months or 500 hours and commercial coverage at 24 months. Kubota Canada's table instead lists Z400 at 36 months/500 hours, with mower-deck coverage shown separately at 24 months/500 hours. Obtain the full terms for your use and country rather than importing a US headline into a Canadian purchase.
Our buying view: shortlist the Z452 when its starting routine, operator setup and service support justify the complete price difference. No model-specific fuel-consumption advantage, owner consensus or delivered price was verified. Research checked October 12, 2026.
Our ZT Score
7.9/10 — our research-based editorial assessment using the ZeroTurn scoring method.
- Cut quality (30%): 8.0/10. The documented side-discharge deck and drive package suit a substantive lawn-mowing comparison, but finish is not field tested.
- Build & durability (25%): 8.1/10. ZT-3600 drive and documented equipment support repeated-work suitability; EFI alone is not evidence of greater reliability.
- Comfort (20%): 8.1/10. Three-inch-stroke suspension seat and weighted controls are relevant features, without a measured comfort result.
- Value (15%): 7.2/10. Starting convenience can be useful, but fuel savings and the full quoted premium have not been established.
- Ease of use (10%): 8.2/10. Push-button starting, an hour meter and a check-engine indication support routine use; diagnostic service availability should be confirmed.
Provisional research-based editorial assessment of documented equipment, not a hands-on test. Comparative finish, fatigue, fuel consumption and service life have not been measured. Reliable model-specific owner consensus and current delivered US or Canadian dealer quotes were not established. Value depends on the intended work, complete quotation and local service support.
