Our verdict
John Deere Z545R (60-in)
The Z545R sits at the top of John Deere's residential range, and fuel injection is what sets it apart. The EFI engine starts on the first turn with no choke, and its ECO mode trims fuel use on lighter jobs, while a ComfortGlide seat glides fore and aft to take the jolt out of rough ground. A 9-gauge High Capacity deck, LED lights, foldable ROPS and foot pegs all come standard, backed by a four-year bumper-to-bumper warranty. It is not a commercial machine, so the transaxles are residential-grade, and it is priced at the premium end of homeowner mowers. For a large home lawn where easy starting, comfort and the green badge matter, it is the best of the Deere homeowner line.
