Key strengths

  • +104-inch rear-discharge cutting system with hydraulically raised wings
  • +Separate Danfoss pumps and Parker wheel motors
  • +Current package lists I4M suspension seating and a 15-gallon tank

Worth knowing

Our verdict

Hustler Super 104 Kawasaki EFI

Super 104 addresses a different job from a typical 60-inch zero-turn: covering large, open areas with a 104-inch rear-discharge wing deck. Its usefulness depends on how much of the route can actually exploit that width and how the complete machine gets to the job.

Define the Kawasaki EFI version

This review selects the 944058 Kawasaki FX1000 EFI configuration, documented in a municipal equipment bid record. That record confirms identity, not a current retail price. Hustler's current manufacturer page specifies 38.5 hp and 999cc for the Kawasaki EFI engine, alongside a separate 40 hp Vanguard Oil Guard option.

The Kawasaki machine should not be described as having the Vanguard oil system. The current page lists a 15-gallon tank and I4M suspension seat; older literature carries different tank and seat specifications. Confirm the build and supplied equipment on the specific unit before ordering.

Drive uses Danfoss DDC20 pumps and Parker TG wheel motors, with a published maximum forward speed of 11 mph. This is a pump-and-wheel-motor arrangement rather than an integrated ZT-series transaxle. The transmission guide provides background for comparing drive layouts and service requirements.

Measure the folded machine, not just the deck base

Hustler lists 106.1 inches with the wings down and 80 inches with them raised at the gauge wheel. Its separate 72.5-inch deck-base dimension is not the complete transport width. A trailer or gate that clears only the smaller figure is not established as usable.

The published length is 95.5 inches. Check the complete fitted machine, loading geometry, rated transport capacity and securement requirements with the dealer. Our gate-width checklist helps separate cutting width from the dimensions that matter along an access route.

Evaluate the whole route

The hydraulic wing and height system offers a cutting range from 1 to 5.5 inches. Demonstrate the prescribed wing operation and transport sequence, then evaluate suitable mowing areas with the deck in its approved working configuration. Do not assume that a broad cutting swath follows every contour or permits mowing every slope.

The Hustler Super Z 60 is a useful narrower comparison where entrances, islands or storage constrain a wide-area machine. Include maneuvering and transport in the job comparison rather than applying a catalogue acreage-per-hour figure to the entire property.

Our buying view: shortlist Super 104 when large open work areas and the transport setup justify its scale. Current machine coverage is five years/1,200 hours, with no hour limit during the first two years; engine terms are separate. Research checked October 16, 2026. No productivity, fuel-saving or ride result has been measured here.

Our ZT Score

8.0/10 — our research-based editorial assessment using the ZeroTurn scoring method.

  • Cut quality (30%): 8.2/10. The broad rear-discharge wing system serves open-area work, but contour following and finish are untested.
  • Build & durability (25%): 8.5/10. Separate industrial pump-and-motor components support a commercial equipment assessment, not a lifetime forecast.
  • Comfort (20%): 8.0/10. I4M suspension seating offers adjustment and isolation potential; no measured comfort result is available.
  • Value (15%): 7.2/10. The width can be valuable on suitable open routes; transport and obstacles can undermine the purchase case.
  • Ease of use (10%): 7.3/10. Hydraulic wing operation helps configuration changes, while the large folded footprint adds planning and handling demands.

Provisional research-based editorial assessment of documented equipment, not a hands-on test. Cut finish, ride, service life and fuel consumption have not been measured by ZeroTurn. Reliable model-specific owner consensus and comparable delivered US/Canadian prices were not established. Value depends on the complete quote, local support and actual work.
