Husqvarna Z448 48
The Husqvarna Z448, article 967984601, puts the Z400 commercial layout around a 48-inch deck. It is a route-size alternative to the Z460 60, with a smaller cutting pass and a different published engine rating. It should also be distinguished from the residential Z248F 48.
Look at routine access before buying
Husqvarna's US product specification lists Parker HTE hydrostatic drive and a removable steel floor pan for belt access. The deck has greasable aluminum spindle assemblies. Those details create concrete questions for a service demonstration: how is the mower made safe, which points need lubrication, and what work belongs with a technician?
Greasable does not mean any grease or interval is acceptable. Obtain the model-specific lubrication chart and include it in the maintenance record. Accessible parts are useful only when the required work is understood and completed.
Compare the cutting arrangement
The 48-inch fabricated deck uses 10-gauge steel and foot-operated height selection across 13 positions. Its listed range is 1.5 to 4.5 inches. Ask for a demonstration at the height and growth conditions relevant to your jobs.
The current listing specifies a 22 hp Kawasaki FS Series engine and a ten-mph forward maximum. We have not converted that maximum into a productivity claim or inferred a more specific engine model from the family name.
The high-back seat has hinged armrests. A professional-seat label does not establish a suspension mechanism, so verify the supplied seat and try its adjustment before deciding how it compares with another mower.
Check both clearance and coverage
Published width is 48.5 inches with the chute up and 59.75 inches with it down. Neither permits treating a nominal 48-inch gate as adequate. Check the approach and permitted transport configuration, and restore required discharge protection before mowing.
Husqvarna's US warranty document lists Z400 coverage at four years/750 hours, with the first two years unlimited. Its component provisions separately specify three years for Parker HTE transmissions. Obtain the terms applicable to the actual purchase, especially in Canada.
The Z448 deserves consideration when a smaller commercial seated mower fits the route and local service is suitable. The strongest buying checks are physical access, service access and operator fit; we have not measured its cutting results, reliability or fatigue over a working day.
Our ZT Score
7.5/10 — our research-based editorial assessment using the ZeroTurn scoring method.
- Cut quality (30%): 7.6/10. Fabricated deck and 13 settings support setup; comparative cut quality remains unmeasured.
- Build & durability (25%): 7.8/10. Parker HTE and commercial spindle assemblies support the design without proving lifespan.
- Comfort (20%): 7.0/10. High-back seating and armrests help fit, while verified suspension and ride testing are absent.
- Value (15%): 7.1/10. Smaller commercial routes may suit the package; delivered pricing and savings are unknown.
- Ease of use (10%): 7.7/10. Removable floor pan and foot lift aid access and adjustment; clearance and lubrication need attention.
Provisional research-based editorial judgement, not a hands-on test. We have not measured finish, ride, productivity or service life. Model-specific owner consensus and comparable delivered US/Canadian prices were not established. Value depends on the work, supplied equipment and local support.
