Our verdict

Grasshopper 328G4 EFI 61 Side Discharge

The 328G4 EFI 61 is a mid-mount Grasshopper for someone who wants electronic fuel injection and a large fuel tank in a 61-inch side-discharge package. Its useful comparison is the complete working setup: deck, seat, clipping equipment and local service. A badge or an EFI label alone does not establish a better result.

Identify the engine and drive

Grasshopper's engine maintenance reference identifies the 328G4 as the 28 hp, 810cc Vanguard EFI configuration. The 329G4 uses a different engine; it should not be treated as another name for this machine. The 328G4 pairs its engine with Hydro-Gear ZT-4400 transaxles.

The 13-US-gallon tank can be useful when arranging refuelling stops, but capacity does not measure fuel economy. Use your own consumption log with the runtime guide. Similarly, the published 10.5-mph maximum is a travel specification, not a promise that your grass can be cut satisfactorily at that speed.

Check the seat included in the price

The 300G manufacturer brochure lists the Premium Comfort Seat as standard on the G4. The Premier Suspension seat is an option; it is standard on the larger G5 configuration. Ask which seat is fitted to the demonstration unit and which appears on your quotation.

The adjustable steering levers and foot-operated DropPin height system are worth trying together after adjusting the seat. Record whether you can reach the controls comfortably rather than assuming an upgrade's name guarantees a better fit. Our demo checklist turns those observations into a repeatable comparison.

Choose how to handle clippings

The 61-inch DuraMax deck has a side-discharge configuration, with mulching and PowerVac collection equipment offered separately. Ask for an itemized list if either is part of your intended routine. Do not compare a base machine price with a demonstration that includes additional clipping equipment.

Against the 226V-G4 52, this is a wider, EFI-powered configuration with a different fuel-capacity package. Verify that the extra width fits the connecting passages as well as the open lawn.

Grasshopper advertises three years/1,000 hours for commercial use and four years/800 hours for residential use, whichever applicable limit comes first. Obtain the written parts-and-labor terms; the headline duration is not the complete warranty. Our provisional assessment supports a closer look where the deck size and fuel capacity suit the work, subject to actual cut results and a delivered quote.

Our ZT Score

8.0/10 — our research-based editorial assessment using the ZeroTurn scoring method.

  • Cut quality (30%): 8.1/10. DuraMax construction and adjustable height support the cutting package; finish untested.
  • Build & durability (25%): 8.2/10. ZT-4400 drive and reinforced deck are substantial hardware; longevity is unmeasured.
  • Comfort (20%): 7.9/10. Standard seat and adjustable levers offer fit options; upgraded suspension is optional.
  • Value (15%): 7.6/10. EFI and capacity may suit frequent work, but delivered price and fuel savings are unknown.
  • Ease of use (10%): 8.0/10. Foot height adjustment and adjustable controls help fit; optional equipment must be specified.

Provisional research-based editorial assessment of documented equipment, not a hands-on test. We have not measured finish, ride, productivity or service life. Model-specific owner consensus and comparable delivered US/Canadian prices were not established. Value depends on the job, exact equipment and local service.
