Our verdict

Ferris IS 6200 72

The IS 6200 belongs on a shortlist for large, regularly maintained sites where the whole machine can be put to work. It is a poor starting point for choosing a mower simply by horsepower. With a wide cut, substantial mass and a large purchase price, the cost of buying more machine than the route needs is especially visible here.

The equipment behind the size

Ferris identifies 5902162 as a 72-inch machine with a 48 gross hp CAT C1.7L turbo diesel. Its US specification page lists 21cc pumps, Parker wheel motors, hydraulic deck lift and a 12 mph forward maximum. Independent front and rear suspension is paired with a premium suspension seat.

The ISX 3300 provides a gas-powered point of comparison; the IS 2600 offers a smaller diesel package. Compare complete jobs rather than treating these as interchangeable engines in the same chassis.

Fit the transport plan before the purchase

The published dry weight is 2,518 pounds, and width is 86 inches with the deflector down. Plan around the actual delivered machine, fuel, attachments and other equipment. A trailer that can physically accommodate the mower is not automatically rated for the complete load.

Walk the property before the demo. Identify access restrictions and places that would remain outside this mower's reach. Include those areas in the time comparison; otherwise the wider deck receives credit for work it cannot perform.

Put the price in context

As checked October 7, 2026, Ferris lists US MSRP $41,854 and Canadian MSRP C$56,503. These are suggested prices, not delivered quotes; the manufacturer excludes several delivery and setup-related charges. Compare the same accessories and service arrangement in one currency.

The machine warranty is described as two years with unlimited hours or four years/500 hours, subject to its terms. Engine coverage is separate. Ask how the coverage applies to your expected annual hours rather than comparing the four-year headline alone.

Our editorial view

The equipment merits consideration for sustained commercial use where access and transportation are already suitable. We would require a representative mowing demonstration and a written ownership-cost comparison before calling it good value for a particular operation.

Ferris publishes engine-longevity marketing claims, but we have not verified a model-specific service-life advantage through independent records. No fixed lifespan or fuel saving is assumed in our score. Our diesel-versus-gas guide shows which evidence to collect before making that comparison.

Our ZT Score

8.2/10 — our research-based editorial assessment using the ZeroTurn scoring method.

  • Cut quality (30%): 8.5/10. A large commercial deck and hydraulic lift form a credible open-site cutting package; local finish and contour handling remain untested.
  • Build & durability (25%): 8.8/10. Separate pumps and wheel motors with cooling support sustained-work design confidence, without proving a failure rate.
  • Comfort (20%): 8.8/10. Front and rear suspension plus a suspended seat provide extensive adjustment; personal ride quality has not been tested.
  • Value (15%): 6.5/10. Published MSRP demands high utilization and a clear operational benefit, so equipment strength does not produce a high value score.
  • Ease of use (10%): 7.1/10. Hydraulic lift helps, but the wide footprint and heavy transport load impose significant practical limits.

Provisional research-based editorial judgement for commercial mowing, not a hands-on test. No reliable model-specific owner consensus or measured fuel-use comparison was established. Cut and comfort scores assess documented equipment and require a local demonstration. Value uses the manufacturer MSRP, not a delivered dealer quote.
