Ferris 500S 52
The 500S is the cheapest way to get Ferris's real party trick, its suspension, on a machine that is easy to own. Where most mowers at this money ride rigid, the 500S floats on front and rear coil-over shocks, which turns rough ground from a beating into a mild nuisance. A 10-gauge fabricated deck and serviceable ZT-2800 transaxles mean the rest of the machine is built to last, and Ferris backs the suspension for ten years. The seat is only mid-back and 25 horsepower is adequate rather than muscular. For a couple of bumpy acres where comfort matters and the budget is real, it is hard to beat.
