Exmark Vertex S-Series 52 ECV740 EFI
The Vertex S 52 EFI gives a buyer a medium-width stand-on with a specific fuel-injected engine: the 25 gross hp ECV740. Model VXS740EKC52400 is the identity to retain when requesting a quote or looking up parts. The wider Vertex family includes other engines, so a series name and deck width are not enough.
Keep the engine choice separate from the platform
Exmark's model page identifies the Kohler EFI engine, eight-US-gallon tank and 8.5-mph maximum. It describes a hydrostatic drive and single-belt drive system. We have not assigned an unverified pump displacement or transferred a transmission specification from another Vertex series.
EFI may be a useful buying preference, but this review does not establish a fuel-saving percentage. Use the EFI comparison to separate engine-management features from claims that need operating data. Actual consumption and refuelling intervals depend on your route and conditions.
Evaluate the deck adjustment and standing area
The 52-inch UltraCut Series 4 side-discharge deck has flow-control baffles, anti-scalp rollers and a floating rod-style mounting arrangement. The published cutting-height range is 1.5 to five inches. Ask the dealer to demonstrate the single-point height selection and explain the correct deck setup for your work.
The open operator platform provides room to change stance, with controls grouped near the operator. Try the available adjustment and reach while following dealer instruction. Those design features support a fit assessment, not a claim that standing will be comfortable for every operator or shift length.
The narrower Vertex E 36 is a useful comparison where connecting passages decide the job. Its different deck and engine package should not be judged solely by the shared Vertex badge. Confirm the equipped width and turning room for both candidates.
Service access does not mean no maintenance
Exmark describes tool-free access to the engine and hydro components, sealed cutter-housing bearings and no in-season grease points. The same page still calls for annual lubrication of spherical idler bearings. Obtain the correct operator manual and follow its complete maintenance schedule rather than interpreting a reduced-maintenance feature as a maintenance-free machine.
The model-linked warranty covers US and Canadian equipment for four years/1,250 hours, with no hour limit in the first two years. Engine coverage is separate, and the statement lists specific exceptions for belts, tires and the battery. Our provisional judgement recognizes the deck and service-access design, while reserving actual cut quality, standing comfort and value for a representative demonstration and a local quote.
Our ZT Score

- Build & durability (25%): 8.0/10. Commercial deck and hydro drive are documented; component longevity is not measured.
- Comfort (20%): 7.6/10. Open standing platform and grouped controls support fit; ride and standing endurance untested.
- Value (15%): 7.6/10. EFI and access features may suit a working route, but delivered costs are unknown.
- Ease of use (10%): 8.1/10. Single-point height adjustment and tool-free service access support routine use.
Provisional research-based editorial judgement, not a hands-on test. We have not measured cut quality, ride, productivity or service life. Model-specific owner consensus and comparable delivered US/Canadian prices were not established. Value depends on the application, equipment and local support.
