Our verdict
EGO Z6 52
The 52-inch Z6 is EGO taking its battery platform properly upmarket, and it answers the biggest knock against electric mowers, which is range. Six 12Ah batteries push it to a real four acres on a charge, and you can add more to go further, which no gas mower lets you do. Five brushless motors give it the punch of a 25 HP engine, the deck is fabricated steel rather than plastic, and it runs quiet enough to mow early without waking the street. It costs as much as a solid gas machine and charging still takes hours. For a mid-size lawn where you would rather plug in than pour fuel, few electrics come close.
