What owners love
- +Serviceable Hydro-Gear ZT-2800 transaxles, not a sealed entry unit
- +10-gauge formed and welded Elite deck shell
- +Greaseable commercial front forks with lifetime cover against breakage
- +Quick-lift lock raises the deck to clear obstacles and travel
Worth knowing
- −Expensive for a 23 HP residential machine
- −No seat suspension
- −Dealer-only, so you cannot compare it in a big-box aisle
Our verdict
Dixie Chopper Zee 2 2354KW (54-in)
The Zee 2 is Dixie Chopper putting commercial hardware in a homeowner wrapper, and the important bit is the transmission. You get serviceable ZT-2800 transaxles rather than the sealed unit that quietly limits the life of most machines at this size, plus a 10-gauge welded deck and greaseable forks covered for life against breakage. What you do not get is a suspension seat, and the price is steep for 23 horsepower. If you plan to keep a mower for a decade and can buy through a dealer, the drivetrain justifies it. If you want the most machine per dollar today, cheaper rivals cut just as much grass.
