Our verdict

Craftsman Z7600 54

The Z7600 sits at the top of Craftsman's zero-turn range, and the deck is what separates it from the cheaper models. Where the Z5800 and its siblings use stamped steel, this one gets a reinforced fabricated deck built to survive difficult conditions, and Craftsman adds front caster suspension and a rubber foot mat so rough ground reaches you less. A Kohler PRO KT735 and Tuff Torq TZ-350 transmission handle the work, with LED headlights included. The transmission is not commercial-grade and owners do mention the odd spindle or clutch issue, so keep up with maintenance. For two or three acres and a buyer who wants a fabricated deck without leaving the big-box price bracket, it is the Craftsman worth buying.
