What owners love
- +The same patented stand-up deck as the commercial models
- +Joystick steering available, which many owners find easier than lap bars
- +Heavy welded steel deck rather than a stamped one
- +Fuel tank sits under the seat, keeping the centre of gravity low
Worth knowing
- −Only a 2-year residential warranty
- −Small dealer network compared with the big brands
- −Less drivetrain than the commercial Charger for hard use
Our verdict
Country Clipper XLT 52
The XLT is the cheapest way to get Country Clipper's two best ideas. You still get the stand-up deck that makes blade sharpening a ten-minute job, and the joystick option that turns steering into point and go. The welded steel deck is a real step above the stamped decks common at this money, and the low-slung fuel tank helps it feel planted. The warranty is only two years, and the drivetrain is not the commercial unit from the Charger, so heavy weekly acreage is not its brief. For a couple of tidy acres and an owner who values easy maintenance, it makes a lot of sense.
