Our verdict
Ryobi ZR3 80V HP 42-in
Ryobi's pitch is a battery zero-turn that fits through a standard gate and undercuts most gas rivals on price. Four brushless motors give it roughly the punch of a 25 HP engine, and with no fuel, oil or belts, maintenance nearly disappears. The 42-inch deck is stamped rather than fabricated, and the honest runtime is closer to one well-kept acre than the two Ryobi quotes, especially in thick grass. If your lawn is small to mid-sized and mostly flat, and you like charging over pumping gas, it's a sensible pick. For big or rough acreage, look at a gas machine or the pricier EGO.
