Our verdict
John Deere Z320R (42-in)
The Z320R is one of the strongest 42-inch residential choices because Deere did not treat the small deck as a bargain-bin model. You still get the Accel Deep deck, a Kawasaki FR651V and a 7 mph top speed, plus a tall seat with armrests. The trade-off is the residential Hydro-Gear EZT-C drive and a warranty capped at 200 hours. If your property is under two acres and cut quality, dealer support and resale value matter more than having the cheapest machine, the Z320R makes a convincing case.
