Our verdict
Husqvarna Z242F 42
The Z242F is the compact Husqvarna to look at when a 48- or 54-inch deck is simply too much mower. The 42-inch ClearCut deck is fabricated rather than stamped, and the Kawasaki FR651V is a proven residential engine with plenty of power for this deck size. It is not a fast machine at 6.5 mph and there is no suspension seat, so rough acreage is not its strength. For one to two acres with gates, trees and landscaping, though, the smaller footprint is a real advantage and the hardware is better than the typical entry-level zero-turn.
