Our verdict

Greenworks CrossoverZ 42

The CrossoverZ is Greenworks making a serious run at the gas homeowner, and it mostly lands. Four brushless motors give it roughly 24 HP of equivalent grunt, it is quiet enough to mow at 7am, and the built-in cargo bed hauls up to 200 pounds, which is genuinely useful. The 42-inch deck is stamped steel and fits through a gate, though the honest runtime sits nearer 1.5 acres than the headline 2.5 in thick grass. For a small to mid flat lawn where you would rather charge than fuel up, it is an easy recommendation. For big or hilly acreage, it runs out of battery before it runs out of grass.
