Our verdict

Gravely Pro-Turn 160 Kawasaki FX730V

The Pro-Turn 160 model 991130 brings a 60-inch cutting pass and Kawasaki FX730V power to Gravely's 100 series. It is a useful comparison for an operator who likes the seated layout of the Pro-Turn 152 but has enough open work to use a wider deck.

Identify the Kawasaki version

Gravely's manufacturer bid specification identifies 991130 with a 23.5 hp, 726cc FX730V and Hydro-Gear ZT-3400 transmissions. It also documents a different Pro-Turn 160 with a Kohler engine under another model number. A shared sales name therefore is not enough for a precise comparison.

The Kawasaki specification lists a ten-US-gallon tank and ten-mph maximum forward travel. Neither number establishes route output. Compare the complete job, including obstacles and trimming left for other equipment, rather than converting maximum speed directly into a promised mowing time.

Compare deck and control details

The 60-inch deck uses 7-gauge steel with quarter-inch spindle-area reinforcement. Its foot-operated lift and dial select cutting heights from 1.5 to 5.5 inches in quarter-inch steps. Forged-aluminum spindle housings and a constant belt-tension system are documented parts of the package.

During a demonstration, make several height changes from the normal seating position. Check whether the pedal, dial and control levers are comfortable to operate repeatedly. A robust specification does not establish better finish on every grass type; we have not tested clipping discharge or cut consistency.

Measure the route and try the seat

The specification lists 63 inches with the discharge in its transport position and 75 inches in the operating configuration. Confirm the supplied mower's dimensions and keep the discharge protection in the required position while mowing.

A high-back suspension seat is included in the documented configuration. It should not be confused with an entire suspended operator platform. The Toro Z Master 2000 MyRIDE HDX 60 offers a different approach to operator isolation, making the two relevant demonstration candidates.

Read the hour cap correctly

Published commercial coverage for 991130 is five years/1,000 hours, with the first two years without an hour limit, plus separate limited-lifetime frame and deck-shell provisions. Our warranty guide explains why annual hours affect the practical coverage period.

Get the applicable terms and exact equipment in writing, especially for older stock or a used machine. This assessment does not establish current stock or delivered pricing. The 160 is worth considering when its wider pass reduces work without creating access or transport problems elsewhere.

Our ZT Score

7.8/10 — our research-based editorial assessment using the ZeroTurn scoring method.

  • Cut quality (30%): 8.0/10. Reinforced 7-gauge deck and quarter-inch selection support the cutting package; actual finish is untested.
  • Build & durability (25%): 8.0/10. ZT-3400 drive and reinforced frame/deck support repeated use without proving longevity.
  • Comfort (20%): 7.8/10. High-back suspension seating supports fit; operator isolation needs a demonstration.
  • Value (15%): 7.3/10. Wider route coverage may be useful, but price advantage and payback are unknown.
  • Ease of use (10%): 7.8/10. Foot lift and dial adjustment aid setup; transport and operating widths constrain access.

Provisional research-based editorial judgement, not a hands-on test. We have not measured finish, ride, productivity or service life. Model-specific owner consensus and comparable delivered US/Canadian prices were not established. Value depends on the work, supplied equipment and local support.
