Our verdict

Ferris SRS Z1 48 Kawasaki

The SRS Z1 48 is worth a demonstration when standing-platform adjustment and control of travel speed matter on a commercial route. Its suspension acts on the operator platform. That is a different arrangement from the chassis suspension associated with Ferris's seated IS models, so compare the actual movement rather than the shared brand name.

Follow the Kawasaki 48-inch column

Ferris's US specification table identifies 5901940 with a 22 gross hp Kawasaki FX691V, 726cc displacement and Hydro-Gear ZT-3400 transaxles. The table also contains 36-inch and Vanguard-powered machines. Their engine ratings and deck-construction entries should not be copied into this review.

For this 48-inch configuration, the table names the iCD+ cutting system. Height runs from 1.75 to 4.5 inches in quarter-inch steps. If your routine requires a setting outside that range, resolve that before discussing optional equipment or purchase price.

Make the speed setting part of the demo

A tool-free, three-position speed-control setting lets the operator choose a travel range. Ask the dealer to demonstrate the adjustment and repeat normal turns and stops at an appropriate pace. The published 8 mph maximum does not mean that every lawn should be cut at that speed.

Set the coil-over operator platform for the intended user, then assess the thigh pad and hand-operated deck lift. Check whether ordinary adjustments can be made without an awkward reach. We have not measured vibration reduction or fatigue during a workday.

For an alternative at the same cutting width, compare the Bobcat ZS4000 48. The standing-versus-seated guide helps separate posture and route questions from the engine and drive specifications.

Allow space for the complete machine

Ferris lists 59.5 inches with the deflector down and 54 inches with it raised. Measure entrances in the appropriate approved configuration; a 48-inch deck is not a guarantee of 48-inch access. Include attachments and storage space in the discussion.

The warranty summary gives stand-ons an initial two unlimited-hour years within the four-year/500-hour machine structure and separately lists three years for transaxles. The product table lists ten years for suspension; eligibility and complete terms still need confirmation, and the engine has separate coverage.

Our buying view: shortlist Z1 48 for its adjustable platform and speed-setting arrangement, then test whether those features help your routine. Obtain a delivered quote and the applicable component policies. Research checked October 14, 2026.

Our ZT Score

7.9/10 — our research-based editorial assessment using the ZeroTurn scoring method.

  • Cut quality (30%): 7.9/10. The documented cutting system and quarter-inch adjustment are useful, with a 4.5-inch maximum that limits some cutting plans.
  • Build & durability (25%): 8.0/10. Serviceable ZT-3400 transaxles with cooling fans support commercial equipment suitability, not a failure-rate prediction.
  • Comfort (20%): 8.1/10. Adjustable platform suspension and thigh support earn credit, while individual comfort requires a demonstration.
  • Value (15%): 7.4/10. Platform and speed-control features have a clear use case, conditional on the quote and fit to the route.
  • Ease of use (10%): 8.1/10. Three speed settings and accessible height adjustment are practical; the complete working width must be checked.

Provisional research-based editorial judgement of documented equipment, not a hands-on test. ZeroTurn has not measured finish, fatigue, fuel consumption or service life. Reliable model-specific owner consensus and delivered US or Canadian dealer quotes were not established. Value is conditional on the intended work, complete price and practical local support.
