Our verdict

Exmark Radius S-Series 48

Radius S 48 is a useful middle-ground comparison for an acreage owner who wants adjustable seating and service access without moving straight to a larger professional platform. The purchase question is whether those features solve a problem on your property at an acceptable complete price.

Identify the current RDS model

Exmark's model-specific page identifies RDS691GKA48CA3, pairing a 23 hp Kawasaki FR691 with a 48-inch UltraCut Series 3 side-discharge deck and ZT-3100 transmissions. The published tank capacity is seven US gallons and maximum speed is nine mph.

Older Radius S listings can describe different engines or model codes. Have the exact code entered on the quote, especially when comparing an older demonstration unit with a current order. The Radius E 54 already in our catalog is a different deck and drive package, not a substitute specification sheet for this S-Series.

Check the seat before pricing upgrades

The high-back seat uses adjustable spring suspension and flip-up armrests. Sit in the adjusted position before checking lever reach, entry and exit. A suspension feature deserves a proper demonstration; it does not prove how comfortable a full afternoon will feel for you.

Use the seat-versus-chassis suspension guide to keep those different designs separate. Ask what equipment is included on the mower demonstrated and whether the quoted unit matches it.

Make maintenance access part of the handover

Exmark lists tool-free removal of the floor pan and belt shields, alongside sealed-bearing spindle assemblies. Ask the dealer to show the prescribed access and cleaning routine with the machine safely prepared. Sealed spindle bearings do not make the complete mower maintenance-free.

Adapt deck-rake adjustment is advertised as an accessory for the Radius family. Do not count it as included equipment without a matching line on the quote. If a special adjustment or collection package is essential, establish compatibility before comparing prices.

The US/Canada warranty document specifies four years or 500 hours, whichever comes first, with engine coverage separate. Our buying view: Radius S 48 is worth demonstrating for its seat, deck and service layout. Check expected annual hours against the cap and use our mowing-time guide to assess the job rather than relying on maximum speed. Research checked October 19, 2026.

Our ZT Score

7.9/10 — our research-based editorial assessment using the ZeroTurn scoring method.

  • Cut quality (30%): 8.0/10. UltraCut Series 3 deck and sealed spindle package support the equipment assessment; cut finish remains untested.
  • Build & durability (25%): 7.9/10. ZT-3100 drive and fabricated frame are useful equipment choices, without evidence of measured service life.
  • Comfort (20%): 8.1/10. Adjustable spring suspension and armrests offer fit options, with actual ride dependent on operator and ground.
  • Value (15%): 7.5/10. The feature mix can suit an acreage owner, conditional on price and the 500-hour coverage limit.
  • Ease of use (10%): 8.0/10. Tool-free access and adjustable seating support daily use; optional equipment still needs careful specification.

Provisional research-based editorial assessment of documented equipment, not a hands-on test. We have not measured cut finish, ride, fuel use or durability. Reliable model-specific owner consensus and comparable delivered US/Canadian quotes were not established. Value depends on the complete price, workload and local support.
