EGO ZT4215S 42 e-STEER
The ZT4215S is EGO's 42-inch e-STEER kit with a steering wheel and accelerator pedal. It combines the ZT4210S mower platform with six removable batteries and an 800W charger. The manufacturer page currently labels the kit “Coming Soon”; confirm local availability rather than assuming it is ready for delivery. This review covers that specific kit; the older ZT4205S package should not be treated as interchangeable when comparing batteries, range claims or parts.
Read the kit contents before the acreage headline
The ZT4215S product page lists two 10Ah batteries and four 6Ah batteries. Its main specifications claim up to two acres on a charge. That is a manufacturer claim, not our measured result or a guarantee for your lawn. Grass conditions, chosen settings and battery condition can change the outcome.
EGO describes the mower as 24-horsepower-equivalent. The power figure on this card represents that manufacturer comparison; this electric mower has no 24 hp gasoline engine, and we have not verified equivalent performance in a controlled test. The page also contains older ZT4205S comparison material, whose four-battery configuration and 22 hp-equivalent claim do not describe the selected kit.
A smaller deck with familiar controls
The deck is a 42-inch, 12-gauge stamped shell with two blades. Ten height settings cover 1.5 to 4.5 inches, and four blade-speed selections span 2,300 to 3,200 rpm. Maximum travel speed is eight mph. Treat those settings as operating choices within the manual, not a promise that the highest speed delivers the best finish.
The steering wheel, accelerator pedal and cruise control offer a different interface from lap bars. Try control reach and low-speed manoeuvring during a supervised demonstration. Compare the gas-powered Cub Cadet ZTS1 42 if steering-wheel operation is the main requirement; their power systems and maintenance needs are different.
Plan charging and seasonal storage
The linked CHV0800 charger manual specifies 120V, 60Hz supply and recommends a dedicated circuit. Have a suitable dry charging location and follow its connection, ventilation and electrical instructions. Do not assume an outlet shared with other substantial loads will be an adequate arrangement.
The electric winter-storage guide uses this platform as a documented example. Removing the batteries for storage and keeping the mower dry are separate tasks. A water-resistance rating should not be interpreted as permission to leave the charger exposed to wet conditions.
Verify coverage by component
EGO's warranty policy lists household mower coverage at five years or 300 driving hours. Battery terms depend on the exact battery model and registration conditions. The product page and general policy also need reconciliation for the supplied 800W charger; obtain written confirmation rather than assuming every component has an unconditional five-year term.
Our provisional assessment recognizes the control layout and removable-battery system. We have not measured runtime, cutting performance, charging time or long-term battery capacity, and a delivered quote remains necessary to assess value.
Our ZT Score
7.4/10 — our research-based editorial assessment using the ZeroTurn scoring method.
- Cut quality (30%): 7.4/10. Two-blade stamped deck and selectable speeds provide adjustment; finish and runtime untested.
- Build & durability (25%): 7.2/10. Documented electric platform supports the assessment; battery longevity is not established.
- Comfort (20%): 7.6/10. Wheel-and-pedal layout supports a familiar interface; seat and ride comfort untested.
- Value (15%): 7.1/10. Included batteries may suit household use, but replacement costs and delivered value are unknown.
- Ease of use (10%): 7.8/10. Removable batteries and control options aid use, with charging and storage requirements.
Provisional research-based editorial judgement, not a hands-on test. We have not measured cut quality, ride, productivity or service life. Model-specific owner consensus and comparable delivered US/Canadian prices were not established. Value depends on the application, equipment and local support.
