What owners love
- +Fully welded tubular steel frame — joints are welded, not bolted
- +Limited lifetime warranty on the deck shell and frame
- +11-gauge fabricated deck with 13 cutting heights
- +Commercial-grade Kawasaki FR691V engine in a homeowner machine
Worth knowing
- −Hydro-Gear EZT transaxles are the entry-level unit, not the commercial ZT-2800/3400
- −No seat suspension
- −Priced above rivals with a similar spec sheet
Our verdict
Ariens IKON 52
Ariens builds the IKON 52 like it expects you to keep it, and the lifetime deck-and-frame warranty says they mean it. The Kawasaki engine and 11-gauge fabricated deck put it ahead of most homeowner machines on paper. The catch is the EZT transaxles — fine for a couple of acres a week, but not the commercial-grade drive its engine and frame might lead you to expect.
