Our verdict
Ariens Apex 52
The Apex is the mower you graduate to when the IKON is not quite enough. It keeps the welded frame and tough build Ariens is known for, but upgrades to a fabricated 10-gauge deck and serviceable Hydro-Gear ZT-3100 transaxles, which is the part that matters for the long haul. A 4-year warranty and ROPS capability round it out. It costs meaningfully more than the IKON, and there is still no suspension seat at this price. For a buyer who wants a commercial-grade drivetrain in a residential machine and plans to keep it a long time, it is a sensible step up.
